A lecture by Dr Emily Vincent on the origins of the ghost story, followed by Q&A, presented by Seed Talks.
Dr Emily Vincent is coming to Brighthelm Church and Community Centre on Wednesday 25 November for a talk on the history of the ghost story. It's presented by Seed Talks, and the whole thing is built around one subject: where our ghost stories actually come from.
That's the core of it. Dr Vincent will be tracing the origins of the ghost story, looking at how these tales started and how they've changed over time. If you've ever wondered why we're so drawn to stories about the dead, or how the ghost story became its own thing, that's exactly what she'll be getting into. It's not just a collection of tales, but a look at the roots of the genre itself.
And it's not a one-way street. Once the lecture is finished, there's a Q&A session, so you can put your own questions to her and keep the conversation going. If there's a particular era or a specific kind of ghost story you've always wondered about, that's your chance to bring it up and hear her take on it.
