The History & Mythology Of Werewolves

The History & Mythology Of Werewolves comes to Brighthelm Church and Community Centre on Wednesday 28 October, from 19:00 to 21:30. It's a lecture that asks why the howling wolf still haunts our dreams and imagination, and traces the werewolf myth across time and place—from Asia to Europe to the Americas.

The talk doesn't just stick to the legends. It sits them alongside the horrifying reality of the 16th and 17th century werewolf trials, when people confessed to impossible transformations and paid the ultimate price. From there, it follows how the bloodthirsty monster evolved into the volatile, vulnerable teenage heartthrob of modern TV, film and erotica, and looks at what the figure reveals about our relationship with the natural world, the complexities of masculinity and the thin, blurring line between man and beast.

It's part of Seed Talks' Myth & Folklore series, which explores the psychology behind legends—vampires, witchcraft and folklore—and how such myths shape human culture, identity and the collective consciousness. The talks are led by academics and researchers, including historians, psychologists, anthropologists and literary experts, and are offered both in person and online.
