A lecture by David Byrne, cultural thinker and former Talking Heads member, at the Theatre Royal.
David Byrne is coming to the Theatre Royal on Monday 9 November for a lecture. It's a bit of a departure from the stage work he's been known for lately, and it's a chance to hear him talk rather than sing.
Most of us know him as a co-founder of Talking Heads, the band he started back in 1975. Since then, his work has moved far beyond the music. He's spent the last few decades working across film, theatre, photography and visual art, and he's described as one of the most original and influential artists of the last half century. The theatre side is probably what's freshest in people's minds — American Utopia and Here Lies Love are two of his most recent stage productions, and they're quite different from each other. He's also put out a new album, Who Is The Sky?, in 2025, so he's still recording as well as directing and exhibiting.
That's the context for the evening: a lecture from someone who's spent fifty years working in music, theatre and art, and who's described as one of the most curious and inventive cultural thinkers of our time. If you've followed his career from the early Talking Heads days through to the more recent stage shows, this is a chance to hear him talk about the things he's been thinking about.
