An autobiographical and abstract theatrical cabaret show exploring personal growth, queer fluidity, and breaking heteronormative narratives.
If you are looking for something a bit different during this year's Brighton Fringe, there is a show called That's Just The Way It's (un)Done coming to The Actors Pub in Kemptown. It is an autobiographical cabaret piece created and performed by Rowan For Now, which grew out of their work for an MA in Queer Performance. The show is described as a mix of ritual and revelation, focusing on themes like personal growth, the fluidity of queer identity, and moving away from traditional heteronormative narratives. It is essentially a piece of theatre that uses storytelling and imagery to explore what it means to outgrow your own past.

The production is scheduled for two nights: Tuesday, 12 May, and Wednesday, 13 May 2026. Both performances start at 21:00 and run for approximately 75 minutes. Since it is taking place at The Actors, which is located at 4 Prince's Street, it should have that intimate, local pub-theatre atmosphere that works well for this kind of performance. The creative team behind it includes dramaturg Izzy Rabey, mentor Rachel Mars, and movement support from Zanni CT, so it seems like a well-supported project.
Regarding the logistics, tickets are priced at £10.00 for standard entry, with a concession rate of £8.00 available. It is worth noting that this is an 18+ event, and no one under the age of two is permitted, which is standard for the venue. The show does come with some content warnings, specifically regarding audience interaction, strong language, nudity, loud noises, and sexual references. If you are planning to head down to Kemptown for this, it is probably best to keep those details in mind before booking.
