Immersive theatre by Lost Hippo where guests represent a planet and compete in intergalactic challenges with a live DJ.
Lost Hippo are bringing their Space Olympics to The British Engineerium on Friday 30 October, and it's not your usual night out. The award-winning immersive theatre company describes it as "not just a party. Not just a show", and that's a fair summary of what's on. You arrive at an Interdimensional Spaceport hidden inside the venue and get assigned to one of four rival galaxies. From there, you compete in cosmic carnival games and Olympic events to win orbs for your galaxy, and you're encouraged to represent a planet of your own creation — the more creative, the better. A live DJ rounds off the night.
Between the games, there's plenty to wander through. You can meet bizarre alien characters, explore the Alien Mine, visit the Olympic Welfare Tent, and catch the Opening Ceremony. If you've never done immersive theatre before, it's worth knowing how it works: nobody gets dragged on stage. The actors bring the world to life around you, and you interact as much or as little as you like, so you can be right in the thick of it or just watch from the sidelines.
One thing to keep in mind is the age limit: it's strictly 18+, and they run a Challenge 25 policy at the bar. Most of the event is wheelchair accessible, but the introductory experience and the cosmic carnival games involve stairs and aren't accessible.
