Local artist Kitty McCurdy paints live on the Victoria Terrace of The Grand Brighton, as part of the hotel's Sunday Afternoon Tea and Sunday by the sea experience.
Kitty McCurdy will be painting live at The Grand Hotel on Sunday 25 October, part of the hotel's Sundays on Canvas series. She'll be set up on the Victoria Terrace, working in the open air with the Brighton seafront as her subject. The whole afternoon is built around watching the painting take shape in real time, rather than just seeing the finished thing on a wall later.
Because it's a live session, you can hang around and watch her work, ask questions, and see how the piece evolves over the course of the afternoon. It's a bit different from a gallery visit — you're seeing the process as it happens, and you can step in and chat with her while she's at it. The painting itself is a study of the Brighton seafront, so it's a local scene being captured right there on the terrace.
The session is part of the hotel's Sunday Afternoon Tea service and its wider Sunday by the Sea experience, so it's something you can work around a meal or a drink. If you're already there for tea, you can drift over to the terrace and watch for a while, then head back in. It's a slow-paced way to spend a Sunday afternoon, watching a local artist work while the seafront carries on in the background.
