A hands-on jewellery workshop where participants design and create their own solid silver ring from scratch, learning basic techniques.
The Silver Ring Making Workshop takes place at Rare Thing in Brighton, offering a chance to design and create a solid silver ring from scratch. It’s a practical, hands-on session where you learn the fundamental techniques of jewellery making, such as forming, soldering, and finishing your piece. The workshop is designed for beginners, so you don't need any prior experience to take part; the organisers just ask for a willingness to learn and a good sense of humour. It’s a focused environment, with group sizes typically ranging from four to six people, though they can accommodate larger groups if you get in touch via email beforehand.

During the four-hour session, you’ll work at the bench to craft your own ring, which you’ll be able to take home with you on the same day. The process is centred on using recycled silver, which is a conscious choice to promote sustainable jewellery practices. You’ll be guided through the steps of turning raw material into a finished piece of jewellery, gaining a real sense of how these items are constructed. Because you’ll be working with tools and heat, there are a few safety guidelines to keep in mind: it’s best to avoid wearing open-toed shoes or loose, long sleeves while you’re at the workbench. The workshop is open to anyone aged 16 and over, a requirement set for insurance purposes.
The workshops are held on Sundays, running from 12:00 to 16:00. The cost is £95.00 per person, which covers all the necessary materials, including the silver itself. You’ll also be provided with tea, coffee, and snacks throughout the afternoon. A light lunch is included as well, so if you have any specific allergies or require vegetarian or vegan options, it’s worth letting them know when you book. The venue is located in Brighton at the BN1 1HR postcode, and the price remains £95.00 for the full four-hour experience.
