Learn jewellery making basics and create your own solid silver ring in this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop.
If you have spent time wandering through the East Street Arcade in the South Lanes, you might have noticed the workshop space at Rare Thing. They run a session focused on silver ring making that is open to anyone, regardless of whether you have ever picked up a jewellery tool before. The process involves learning how to design, drill, form, and solder your own piece of solid silver. It is a hands-on session that lasts four hours, running from 12:00 to 16:00, and the goal is for every participant to leave with a finished ring they are happy with.

The cost for the workshop is £95.00 per person, which covers all the materials needed, including the recycled silver used for the rings. The organisers also provide tea, coffee, and snacks throughout the afternoon, so you do not need to worry about bringing anything extra. Because the sessions are kept small, usually between four and six people, there is enough space for individual guidance as you work through the steps. If you are planning to attend, it is worth noting the safety recommendations: the team suggests avoiding open-toed shoes and loose, long sleeves while working with the tools to ensure everything goes smoothly during the soldering and forming stages.
The workshop is open to anyone aged 16 and over, and no prior experience is required to participate. Beyond the session on 22 March 2026, there are several other dates available throughout the spring, specifically 12 April, 26 April, 3 May, 17 May, and 31 May 2026. If you have a larger group in mind, it is possible to arrange a private session by contacting them via email. It is a straightforward way to spend an afternoon if you are interested in the technical side of jewellery making or simply want to try something different in the city centre.
