Silver Ring Making Workshop

Other Rare Thing is running a silver ring making workshop on Sunday 23 August, from 12:00 to 16:00. It's a four-hour session in the South Lanes, and you'll walk out with a ring you've made yourself.

Over the course of the afternoon, you'll go through the main steps of the process: designing your ring, piercing the metal, forming it into shape, and soldering it together. By the time you're finished, you'll have a unique, handmade piece of jewellery to take home. The venue works only with recycled silver, and there's guidance on hand throughout the whole session, so you don't need any prior experience — just a willingness to try something new.

It's a good way to get a feel for the basics of jewellery making without having to commit to a full course. You'll be working with your own hands, from the initial design through to the final solder, and you'll leave with something you can actually wear. It's a one-off afternoon, not a long-term commitment, which makes it a low-pressure way to see if you enjoy working with metal.

Practical details: the workshop runs from 12:00 to 16:00 at Other Rare Thing, in the East Street Arcade, South Lanes, Brighton, BN1 1HR. A standard ticket is £95, which covers the silver as well as snacks, tea and coffee. You'll need to be 16 or over on the day to take part.
