The whole point is learning how to use flexible silicone rubber to make moulds of objects or sculptures, and then using those moulds to cast copies of them over and over in different materials. You'll start with the basics: getting your head around the casting process, preparing your objects or sculptures, and choosing the right release agents to make sure nothing sticks. From there, you'll make a solid silicone mould and a two-part mould with a plaster jacket, and you'll learn the techniques for casting into those moulds using plaster or jesmonite.
It works as an introduction for someone starting from scratch or as a refresher if you've done it before, and it's the starting point for their follow-on intermediate course. The workshop is held at Arts Cement, Unit 10, Quarry Road Industrial Estate, Newhaven, BN9 9DD, and runs from 10:30 to 16:30 on both Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June. A standard ticket is £180, and you can book your place online.
