A large-scale craft show with over 100 quilts, including the Sussex NHS community quilt and Speak Their Name displays, with fabric and sewing exhibitors.
The Sew Happy Quilters' Association are bringing their quilt show to Brighton Racecourse on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September, from 10am to 4pm both days. It's the first show the association has staged, and it marks their return to Brighton for the first time in more than a decade. They're framing it as part of the UK's modern quilting revolution, so it's as much about where the craft is heading as what it's been.
The main draw is the display: over 100 quilts across the Grandstand Hall and Premier Hall. Among them are the Sussex NHS community quilt and work from the 'Speak Their Name' suicide memorial project, so there's a fair bit of local and community-led making on show alongside the more traditional pieces. It's a wide spread, with the association bringing together a range of exhibitors — from fabric and machine suppliers to local quilters — and the show connects visitors with the charities the association supports.
Beyond the quilts themselves, there are SHQA stands stocked with fabrics and sewing notions, and a café on site for when you need a break. It's set up to work whether you're there to look at the work, pick up supplies, or just spend a morning among people who sew.

Tickets are £8.50 if you book by 29 August, and £10 on the door, with free entry for under 16s. You'll find it at Brighton Racecourse, Freshfield Road, BN2 9XZ, in the Grandstand Hall and Premier Hall, 10am to 4pm on both Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September.
