Shake Some Acton #171. Baby Tyler Band, Gripper Lee

Baby Tyler Band and Gripper Lee play The Pipeline on Tuesday 1 September, as part of the Brighton night Shake Some Acton, which has now reached its 171st edition. It's a double bill that brings together two bands from opposite sides of the Atlantic, each working within a different strain of guitar-driven music.

Baby Tyler Band come from Madison, Wisconsin, and were founded by Tyler Fassnacht. They describe themselves as a high-energy D.I.Y. garage punk act, and their songs are caustic and blistering — the kind of raw, loud stuff that doesn't hold back. It's a long way from the American Midwest to a Tuesday night in Brighton, but that's exactly where they'll be on the night.

Sharing the bill is Gripper Lee, a South Coast band whose sound draws on 1980s post-punk and goth. They describe it as a big sound, delivered with plenty of energy and attitude, so you've got the raw punk of the Baby Tyler Band paired with the darker, moodier textures of the post-punk side of things. Between the two, there's a fair bit of ground to cover in one evening.

The night is for ages 18 and over, so keep that in mind if you're bringing anyone younger. Doors open at 7:00pm and the music starts at 7:30pm at The Pipeline, 6 Little East Street, BN1 1HT. Tickets are £8.00, with a booking fee of £0.80.
