Ring Making Workshop

Rare Thing are running their silver ring making workshop from their studio in the South Lanes, with sessions falling on Sundays throughout the rest of the year. It's a hands-on introduction to jewellery making, and you don't need any prior experience to join in — it's designed for beginners, so you can turn up without having ever touched a piece of silver in your life.

Over the course of the session, you'll be guided through the whole process of making a ring from scratch. You start by designing your own, then move on to piercing, forming, and soldering, working with recycled silver. The point is that you're doing the work yourself rather than just watching, and you'll leave with a solid silver ring you made with your own hands. People who've done it have mentioned the creative freedom you're given and the supportive way the instruction is handled, so it's as much about the process as it is about the finished piece. It's also been suggested as a thoughtful gift for someone else to take part in.

The workshop is held at Rare Thing, in the East Street Arcade in the South Lanes, BN1 1HR. It runs on Sundays: 26 July, 9 August, 23 August, 6 September, 27 September, 11 October, 25 October, 8 November, 29 November, and 13 December 2026, so there are plenty of dates to choose from if you can't make the first few. The price is £95, which covers your silver materials as well as complimentary snacks, tea, and coffee to keep you going while you work.
