An immersive interdisciplinary performance combining digital animation with live sound and music performed on an analogue synthesiser.
If you are looking for something a bit different to do in Brighton this May, there is an interesting performance coming up at The Lantern Theatre. It is the kind of show that focuses on atmosphere and sensory experience rather than a traditional narrative structure.

The performance follows a character named Martha as she moves through everyday moments. What makes this piece stand out is how it uses reflective surfaces—like computer screens, car mirrors, sunglasses, and even the surface of a lake—to explore themes of memory and perception. As the story unfolds, these surfaces act as tools that both reveal and distort reality, which seems to be the core of what Jelic is exploring here. It is designed to be a space where the audience is encouraged to slow down and reconsider how the images we encounter daily shape our understanding of the world.
Beyond the visuals, the sound design plays a significant role in the experience. Jelic has composed an atmospheric soundscape that incorporates environmental recordings, such as footsteps, rustling leaves, birdsong, and the sound of cars, all layered with music performed on an analogue synthesiser. This combination of live sound and digital animation aims to create a multisensory environment. Margareta Jelic, who works across painting, installation, and video, brings her background as an art theorist into this practice, which gives the performance a specific, thoughtful approach to how we process visual information. It is a quiet, deliberate kind of event that invites you to listen closely and observe the details.
