Over-18s punk show by Philadelphia band Poison Ruin at The Volks Club on Madeira Drive.
Poison Ruin play The Volks Club on Wednesday 19 November, from 19:00 to 22:00. They're a Philadelphia punk band, and this is their Brighton date. The show is presented by JOY, and it's for over-18s only.
They've been around since 2020, when they started as the multi-instrumentalist solo project of lead vocalist Mac Kennedy. Kennedy has said he finds fantasy tropes incredibly evocative, and that's a good place to start with them. They've built on a string of critically acclaimed works, and they've returned with the album Hymns From the Hills, which pushes their signature approach to grim mythmaking and scythe-swinging aggression in bolder new directions. The songs on it have been described as equal parts natural and phantasmal.
So, if you're into punk that leans into the darker, more atmospheric side of things, this is one to keep on your radar. The set will be drawn from Hymns From the Hills and their earlier records, and the whole thing is for over-18s only.
