A hands-on workshop exploring the future of food through storytelling, creativity, and collaborative play, part of the Brighton Festival 2026.
If you have been looking for something a bit different to do in Brighton this May, there is a workshop coming up on May 10th at Dice Saloon that focuses on how we might handle food production in the future. It is called Planting Seeds: A Game to Imagine Our Future Food Production, and it is part of the Festival of Ideas within the wider Brighton Festival 2026. The session is run by the team at Sussex Serious Play, and the idea is to use storytelling and collaborative games to explore what our food systems, nature, and daily life might look like in the years to come, specifically focusing on Brighton and the South East of England.

Rather than just listening to a lecture, this is designed as a hands-on workshop where you actually participate in building these future scenarios. The premise is to see how the decisions we make today might ripple out over time, affecting the environment and our communities. It is a collaboration between Sussex Serious Play and the Bridging Responsible AI Divides (BRAID) research programme, with additional support from the Sussex Digital Humanities Lab and BRAID Sustainable AI Futures. Because it is interactive, it is open to all ages, which makes it a bit more accessible if you are looking for an activity that isn't just a standard talk or exhibition.
It is interesting to see how these academic research projects, like the ones coming out of the University of Sussex, are trying to bridge the gap between complex topics like sustainable AI and everyday life through play. If you are curious about how creative collaboration can help us think through agricultural or environmental challenges, this seems like a straightforward way to engage with those concepts. You can find the specific timings and ticket details through the Brighton Festival or VisitBrighton websites if you want to plan your Saturday around it.
