Live music gig by Pearl & The Oysters presenting their album Monkey Mind at Alphabet in Brighton.
Pearl & The Oysters play Alphabet on Saturday 21 November, with the set running from 17:30 to 20:30. They're touring their new album, Monkey Mind, so the night centres on that.
It's a Los Angeles duo — Juliette Pearl Davis, who goes by Juju, and Joachim Polack, known as Jojo — and they've been together for a decade, having formed in Paris. They describe their sound as "fizzy, squiggly lounge pop", and the influences they name give you a fair idea of where that sits: 70s piano rock, Brazilian music, exotica and city pop. It's the kind of thing that works just as well in a living room as it does on a stage.
Monkey Mind was produced by Jonathan Rado, who's worked with Weyes Blood, The Lemon Twigs and Father John Misty, and the album follows the cycle of a single day, moving from calm to agitation and back to rest. Hearing that played out live should give you a good sense of the record's arc. If you're into lounge pop or piano rock, it's right in your wheelhouse.

Alphabet is at 11 Dyke Road, BN1 3FE. It's a ticketed event, with entries available online through Eventim and Data Thistle, and it's for over 18s only. The music runs from 17:30 to 20:30, so it's an early one that wraps up well before the night really gets going.
