Eight original short plays written by The NVT Writers Group performed in the studio space of the New Venture Theatre.
The NVT Writers Group are taking over the studio space at New Venture Theatre from 29 July to 1 August, with eight original short plays written by the group. It's their annual short play evening, and the whole thing is performed in the theatre's studio rather than the main house.
To understand where these plays come from, it helps to know what the group is. The NVT Writers is a monthly, informal space for anyone interested in writing for the stage, run by the New Venture Theatre itself. It's not a formal class or a closed circle; it's a regular meeting point for people to work on their writing. This evening is the culmination of that work, where the scripts move from the page to the stage.
There's a collaborative side to it that's worth noting. The plays are put together by a mix of experienced and new directors, actors, and writers working together, so you'll see a range of voices and approaches on one bill. With eight short plays in one night, the tone shifts from piece to piece, which is why it's billed as a varied evening of entertainment rather than a single story.

And then there's the venue. New Venture Theatre is a member-run theatre operated entirely by volunteers, and as a member of the Little Theatre Guild, it doesn't hire its spaces out to external organisations. That means everything that happens here is an internal production. The studio space is smaller and more intimate than the main stage, which suits a night of short, original plays. You'll find it at Bedford Place, Brighton, BN1 2PT, running from 29 July to 1 August.
