A hands-on workshop to build a life-size fly from clay, wire, paint and hair, presented by Modern Toss as part of the Brighton Dome Comedy Festival.
Modern Toss are running a 'Make a Fly' workshop at the Brighton Dome on Saturday 17 October, starting at 11:00. It's a hands-on session where you build a life-size fly from clay, wire, paint and hair, with the whole thing led by co-founder Jon Link. If you've never come across them, Modern Toss are cult cartoonists, and this is one of those rare chances to actually get your hands dirty and make something rather than just looking at it.
The workshop is part of the Brighton Dome Comedy Festival, which returns this October in partnership with Komedia and runs across both venues from 16 to 25 October. It's a good time to be around the city, as the festival brings together a whole run of comedy and related events over those ten days. All performances are live captioned, part of the venue's commitment to accessibility in the arts.
If you're in the building for the workshop, there's a second thing to see. Modern Toss are also showing Flies – Collected Specimens 2004-26 in the Brighton Dome Founders Room, an exhibition that gathers more than twenty years of fly-based work across sculpture, animation, photography, print and interactive installation. It's a fair amount of ground to cover, so you can see the exhibition and then head to the workshop, or vice versa, and get a proper sense of where the whole thing comes from.
