Jazz night from the Jazz at St Andrews series in which Vasilis Xenopoulos and Paul Edis play tunes from the Dexter Gordon canon.
Vasilis Xenopoulos plays St Andrews Church in Hove on Friday 6 November, as part of the Jazz At St Andrews series. He's a tenor saxophonist, and the night is a tribute to Dexter Gordon, so the set is built around Gordon's canon.
Xenopoulos is joined by long-time collaborator Paul Edis on piano, and they're backed by a local rhythm section: Chris Coull on trumpet, Simon Thorpe on bass, and Joe Edwards on drums. It's a full quintet on the stage, with the tenor sax and trumpet leading the way. The series itself runs on Friday evenings at St Andrews, next to the Tesco on Church Road, with each week bringing a different theme or tribute to the church's surroundings, pairing Brighton's jazz talent with players from across the country.
