Local pianist and arranger Terry Seabrook leads a jazz quintet through 'A Shorter Suite' and tunes by Wayne Shorter in the Friday-evening Jazz at St Andrews series.
Terry Seabrook leads a quintet at St Andrew's Church on Friday 20 November, part of the Jazz At St Andrews series. Seabrook is a local pianist and arranger, and he's taking the lead on this one. The set is built around A Shorter Suite, which he'll be performing alongside a selection of tunes by Wayne Shorter.
Shorter is the name that ties the whole thing together. He first rose to prominence in 1959 with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and later played with Miles Davis, and he went on to become one of the most influential saxophonists and composers in jazz. The evening pairs Seabrook's own arrangement with a look back at Shorter's wider body of work.
Seabrook isn't doing it alone. He's joined by Andy Panayi on saxophone, Chris Coull on trumpet, Simon Thorpe on bass and Pete Hill on drums. It's a full quintet, so the horn section — sax and trumpet — will be doing a fair bit of the heavy lifting alongside the rhythm section.
