A meditative painting workshop inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi, suitable for adults and supervised children.
The Vault Contemporary Art Salon is hosting a Japanese Wabi-Sabi Painting workshop on Saturday 4 July, with a second session following on Saturday 11 July. Both run from 14:00 to 15:30, so you've got a choice of weekends if one doesn't suit.
The whole thing is built around the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi, a philosophy that finds beauty in imperfection and impermanence. Rather than aiming for something polished or precise, the session is about embracing the rough edges and the things that don't quite line up. You'll be working with mark-making techniques inspired by the rhythms found in nature, so it's more about the process of painting than getting a perfect result.
It's set up as a meditative workshop, and the environment is designed to be supportive, so there's plenty of room to experiment with your own way of doing things. You'll leave with a new, unique piece of art to take home, and since it's open to all skill levels, you don't need any prior experience to get involved. It's suitable for adults and supervised children, which makes it a decent one to bring the kids along to if you're fancying a creative afternoon together.
