A hands-on workshop exploring Japanese powdered teas, including matcha and hojicha lattes, featuring traditional whisking techniques and premium tea tasting.
Japanese Tea Tasting: Matcha Lattes & More is running at Starling Studio on various dates throughout the summer and early autumn of 2026. This 1.5-hour workshop is designed for beginners, offering a practical look at Japanese powdered teas, with a specific focus on matcha and hojicha lattes. During the session, you’ll learn the proper bamboo whisking techniques required to prepare these teas correctly. The programme involves tasting and comparing five different premium Japanese teas, allowing you to experience the difference between the herbaceous notes of matcha and the warm, toasted profile of hojicha. To accompany the tea, there will be sweets inspired by classic Japanese flavours, all served on handmade ceramics created by Justine Jenner Pottery.

The class is led by Kissako, a business owner with credentials from both the UK Tea Academy and the Global Japanese Tea Association. Because the focus is on the authentic quality of the tea, there is a strict rule against using any flavour additives during the preparation. The sessions are kept small, limited to a group size of one to six people, which keeps the environment focused. If you're planning to attend, the studio is located at 107 Havelock Road, Brighton, BN1 6GL. While the space is on the ground floor, be aware that you will need to climb a few steps from the street to enter.
You can book a spot for July 3 at 09:30, July 4 at 11:30, July 31 at 12:00, August 1 at 09:00, August 15 at 09:00, September 12 at 11:30, September 26 at 11:30, or September 27 at 13:00.
