A tasting session exploring vibrant Japanese powdered teas transformed into modern lattes, covering texture, aroma and intensity.
Japanese Tea Tasting: Matcha Lattes & More is running at Starling Studio on Havelock Road, with five different sessions to choose from across July, August and September. It's a tasting session that looks at how Japanese powdered teas are turned into modern lattes, and it's designed to walk you through the differences in texture, aroma and intensity between the different varieties.
On the one end, there's the grassy lift of matcha, the bright green powder most of us already know. On the other, the mellow, toasted warmth of hojicha, which is roasted green tea and has a completely different, nuttier profile. The session guides you through those two and the space in between, so you can get a proper feel for how they differ in the cup and how to pick the one that actually suits your palate.
It's a good way to get a handle on these teas if you've only ever had them as a quick takeaway and want to understand what's actually going on with the different types. The whole thing is held at Starling Studio, 107 Havelock Road, BN1 6GL.
