A bold theatrical adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's classic tale, exploring psychological battles between passion, restraint, duty, and desire.
If you are looking for plans this June, the Brighton Little Theatre is bringing a new production of Jane Eyre to the Brighton Open Air Theatre (BOAT). This adaptation, written by Polly Teale and directed by Nettie Sheridan, marks the 800th production for the theatre group. It is a specific take on Charlotte Brontë’s novel that focuses on the psychological tension between duty, passion, and restraint, with a particular emphasis on the character of Bertha Mason. It is worth noting that this is a separate production from the one the group is staging in May, so if you are planning to attend, make sure you are looking at the June dates.

The performances are scheduled to run from June 10th to June 13th, 2026. Most of the shows are evening performances starting at 19:00, though there is also a matinee option on Saturday, June 13th, at 14:00. The play has a runtime of approximately two hours and is recommended for audiences aged 12 and over. Tickets are priced at £17 for standard admission, £16 for concessions, and £12 for anyone under 25.
Since the venue is the Brighton Open Air Theatre in Dyke Road Park, it is useful to keep the logistics in mind. It is an outdoor space, so you might want to dress according to the weather. You are welcome to bring your own picnic to enjoy during the show, but please note that dogs are not allowed, with the exception of assistance dogs. The venue is accessible for wheelchair users and those with sensory needs. The gates open one hour before the performance begins, which gives you a bit of time to get settled before the show starts.
