Iraina Mancini

Iraina Mancini plays Alphabet on Thursday 24 September, a London singer-songwriter and DJ who's come to Brighton on the back of her debut album, Undo The Blue. The set will draw from that record, but it's not just a retrospective: she's back in the studio working on a second album and will be previewing new material live on the night.

If you're not familiar with her, Mancini describes her sound as a chic, cool brand of pop that blends psychedelia, retro-soul, Ye-Ye and vintage cinema. It's a specific kind of retro-leaning pop, and the debut album Undo The Blue caught plenty of attention when it came out. Shindig Magazine called it "a playfully radical first album... perfectly amalgamating psych, pop and rock", The Times noted her "intoxicating way with a melody" and described her as "a new heroine to make us swoon", and BBC6 Music playlisted six consecutive singles from it. Lauren Laverne called her "an artist I absolutely love".

She's worked with a fair few big names behind the scenes, too. Her producers have included Jagz Kooner of Primal Scream, Andrew Weatherall, Simon Dine of Paul Weller, Erol Alkan of Duran Duran, and Sunglasses for Jaws of Miles Kane. That mix of psych, soul and pop is what she's known for, and with new material being worked on in the studio, this is one of the first chances to hear where she's heading next.

It's a standing show at Alphabet, 11 Dyke Rd, BN1 3FE, running from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Tickets are £15, 18+ only, and there are no refunds.
