A free community event celebrating women and girls with music, refreshments, and creative activities at Brighton Unitarian Church.
This Saturday, 7th March, the Brighton Unitarian Church on New Road is hosting a community event to mark International Women’s Day. The day is put together by the Network of International Women for Brighton and Hove, an organisation that works year-round to support women from various backgrounds in our city. This particular gathering is designed to bring together several local groups and community organisations to recognise the progress made in empowering women and girls. It’s a central location, so it’s easy to drop in if you’re already spending your Saturday in town. The event is scheduled to run from 11:00 until 16:00, making it a fairly flexible option for a weekend visit.

The programme begins with an official opening by Councillor Sam Parrott, who holds the lead role for the council on issues surrounding violence against women and girls. Throughout the afternoon, the church will host a mix of music, entertainment, and creative activities. It isn't just a formal ceremony; there will be refreshments and plenty of space to move around and talk to people. Various grassroots organisations, local charities, and community projects will have stalls set up, offering a chance to see what kind of support and connection networks exist in Brighton and Hove. These stalls are intended to provide information and opportunities for connection in a way that feels informal rather than corporate.
One of the main points the organisers highlight is that the event is entirely free and open to everyone, including all age groups. While the theme is specifically centred on the achievements and experiences of women, the atmosphere is intended to be inclusive for the whole community. It’s a space where you can find out about local projects or simply enjoy the music and refreshments in a relaxed setting. Since it runs for five hours in the middle of the day, it’s a straightforward way to see the work being done by women across Brighton and Hove and perhaps find a project or cause that interests you.
