The programme is structured to help you refine your current style and improve the consistency of your work. You will start with a series of guided warm-up exercises, which are intended to help you loosen your hand and revisit the key strokes that underpin your lettering. Once you have settled into the rhythm of the session, the focus shifts to more advanced techniques. You will spend time working on developing flourishes, which can add a new layer of expression to your writing, and you will also look at how to improve the connections between your letters. A significant part of the session is dedicated to learning how to create balanced compositions, ensuring that your work looks cohesive and well-structured.
There is also a creative component to the workshop that goes beyond standard lettering. You will have the opportunity to experiment with metallic inks, which offer a different texture and visual effect compared to standard inks. Additionally, you will learn the process of creating your own calligraphy ink. The workshop fee is ÂŁ45.00, and this covers all the materials and tools you will need to use during the two hours. This includes the practice worksheets, the guided exercises, the metallic inks for experimentation, and the handmade calligraphy ink that you will be able to take home with you at the end of the session. It is a straightforward, practical way to build on what you already know and explore new techniques in a studio setting.
