Free lofi-folk gig by Brooklyn artist Hudson Freeman, playing his 2025 record 'Is A Folk Artist' at The Hare & Hounds.
Hudson Freeman plays The Hare & Hounds on Friday 26 February, with the set starting at 19:30. He's a Brooklyn-based lofi-folk artist, and the night is built around his 2025 record, Is A Folk Artist.
There's a fair bit of ground to cover before he lands in Brighton. Born in Waxahachie, Texas, to Evangelical missionaries, Freeman started writing songs at thirteen, shortly after his family moved from the Dallas suburbs to the Kingdom of Eswatini. He spent his college years in Springfield, Missouri, where he picked up the DIY midwestern approach that still marks his work. After graduating and waiting out a pandemic, he moved to Brooklyn, where his career took off.
That midwestern streak comes through in the influences he cites: Sufjan Stevens and Bon Iver, both known for their home-recorded, textural folk. Is A Folk Artist weaves faith, belonging and anxiety into a modern folk record, and it's the material he'll be presenting here.
