Gold Panda plays A L P H A B E T on Thursday 19 November, with Niall McNamee opening. It's a standing night, 18+ only, running from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
The set comes on the back of TON UP, his new album for Studio Barnhus, which came out on 26 June. It's ten tracks in total: eight rough-hewn dance numbers and two service-station interludes, put together with producer Derwin Dicker's sampler-bashing touch. The dance tracks are the core of it, and the interludes sit between them like short breaks in a long drive.
Reviewers have noted that Gold Panda resists the over-explained 'maturity' so often demanded of electronic artists deep into their careers. It's a fair point to keep in mind when you hear the record: there's no sudden shift towards the polished or the polite here. Instead, TON UP sticks to the sampler-heavy, textured sound he's known for, and that's what you'll hear live. Niall McNamee takes the first slot, so the night starts with him before Gold Panda takes over.
