A family workshop for children aged 6-11 to create Ghibli-inspired objects and characters using recycled materials, led by artist Abigail Horn.
Theatre Royal is hosting a Glorious Ghibli family workshop on Saturday 29 August, a morning session for children aged 6 to 11 and their grown-ups. It's led by artist Abigail Horn, and the whole thing is built around the world of Studio Ghibli — the Japanese animation house behind My Neighbour Totoro, Ponyo and Kiki's Delivery Service.
It's not just sitting at a table. The workshop takes the group into the hidden spaces around the theatre, so you'll be exploring the building as well as making things. The creative part is all about building your own Ghibli-inspired objects and characters, and there's a fair bit of variety in what you'll be working with: air-drying clay, cardboard, recycled materials, fabric, paint and decorations. It's the kind of setup where you can make something quite detailed without needing to be an expert, and the drinks and snacks provided mean you can just settle in for the morning. If your kids are into Ghibli, it's a good way to let them bring those characters into the real world.

Theatre Royal sits on New Road, right among the city's main stages alongside the Brighton Dome and the Brighton Open Air Theatre in Dyke Road Park, and it puts on children's theatre regularly, so this fits right into what they do. The workshop starts at 10:30 on Saturday 29 August, and a standard ticket is £10.50.
