Glastonbury The Movie: 30th Anniversary Cut comes to the Duke of York’s Picturehouse on Sunday 28 June, a 4K remaster of the original 1993 documentary. It's part of a national release showing at 62 venues across the UK, and it arrives in a year when the festival itself is taking a fallow year, so there's no Glastonbury to go to in 2026. The screening is followed by a Q&A with the film's director, Robin Mahoney.

As a documentary, it's a bit of a time capsule. It captures the festival before the era of mobile phones and constant documentation, and it does so without narration or interviews — just the festival in full flow. The focus isn't on the headline acts, but on the things that actually make the place: the stone circle at sunrise, the rave tents, and the wandering performers. There are a few specific moments caught on film, too, like The Verve's first festival appearance and Spiritualized's fireworks display. Mahoney describes it as "not the headline acts, but the real festival."

This version is a reconstruction from the original 35mm Panavision CinemaScope negatives, so it's a proper big-screen experience rather than something you'd watch at home. The Q&A afterwards gives you a chance to hear from Mahoney himself, who's been behind the film since the start. It's a good fit for a year when the festival is on a break — as he puts it, "Brighton loves Glastonbury. In a year there is no festival, this is the only way to stand in that field."
