Experience the UK's first indoor glass bottom boat ride, gliding over the 750,000-litre Ocean Tunnel to view sharks and turtles at SEA LIFE Brighton.
If you are looking for a different way to experience the marine life at SEA LIFE Brighton, the historic aquarium on Marine Parade, they offer a unique add-on called the Glass Bottom Boat Experience. This attraction is notable as the UK’s first indoor glass-bottom boat ride, taking place within the walls of the aquarium, which itself holds the title of the world's oldest operating aquarium, dating back to 1872.

The experience involves gliding directly over the massive 750,000-liter Ocean Tunnel exhibit. This perspective allows visitors to look down and see the resident creatures, including the large turtles, Lulu and Gulliver, and various sharks, from above. The 10-minute ride is accompanied by marine experts who explain what makes these animals so fascinating. Since the boats depart every 15 minutes, it’s a quick but concentrated way to interact with the main ocean display.
When planning a visit, it is important to note that the boat ride is an additional purchase separate from the general admission ticket to SEA LIFE Brighton. The cost for the experience starts at £25, and this price covers a group of up to six people from the same household or bubble. If your group is larger, you will need to purchase extra tickets. Children under three are free but must be seated on an adult’s lap. For those who hold a Merlin Annual Pass, there is a 10% discount available on the boat experience itself.
Logistically, the starting point for the ride is the auditorium, which is located past the rainforest area and requires climbing a staircase. Because of this, the experience may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility. The aquarium strongly advises booking your boat time to start at least 30 minutes after your general entry time to ensure you have enough time to reach the starting point. Also, be aware of specific blackout times: the experience does not run at 11:00, 11:15, 14:00, and 14:15 on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
