A traditional, candle-lit Victorian ghost story evening with mulled wine and mince pies, based on tales by writers such as Edgar Allan Poe and Charles Dickens.
Ghost Stories for Christmas runs at The Lantern Theatre from 13 to 18 December, with a performance at 19:30 each evening from Sunday to Friday. It's a traditional, candle-lit Midwinter's Eve of Victorian ghost stories, brought to life by a company of fine-voiced actors. You settle in with mulled wine and mince pies, and from there it's a full evening of classic tales—the spooky, the whimsical and the spectral.
The evening draws on the supernatural stories of Victorian women writers like Amelia B Edwards, Margaret Oliphant, E Nesbit and Mrs JH Ridell, alongside their male counterparts Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Dickens, MR James, EF Benson and Bram Stoker. It's a wide reach across the period, so you'll get the well-known names and some of the less-celebrated voices from the same era. The show runs for 90 minutes plus an interval, and it's recommended for ages 12 and over.
