Fire Fire by John Webber

Fire Fire, a new play by John Webber, comes to the Brighton Dome on Monday 12 October. It's presented by Webber and Co with Metal Rabbit Productions, in association with HighTide and Harlow Playhouse, and it's a drama about people who take big risks to protest.

The story centres on two people who start from opposite ends of the same piece of ground. Eddie is holding a memorial for his brother at a country park near his council estate home; at the same time, Paige is closing the road to that same sanctuary as part of a climate protest. When they meet, insults are traded in a fiery exchange, and they both expect never to see each other again. But their paths cross again and again until they feel there's no choice but to join forces and take drastic action together. It's described as an exciting, moving piece about people who love to hate each other and who discover they share a deeper purpose.

It's a heavy one, though, so it's worth knowing what you're signing up for before you book. The show is recommended for ages 12 and over and contains strong language, themes of grief and bereavement, and depictions of self-harm and suicide, including a character setting himself on fire. If those are things you'd rather avoid, this might not be the night for you.

It plays in the Studio Theatre at the Brighton Dome on New Road, BN1 1UG. Tickets are £20, with £18 concessions and a limited number of £10 low-income concessions. Brighton Dome and Brighton Festival members save £2 on full-price tickets. The performance starts at 8pm, with doors opening at 7.15pm.
