Duck Pond

Circa are bringing Duck Pond to the Brighton Dome Concert Hall this December, running from Wednesday 23 to Monday 28. It's a circus reimagining of Swan Lake, the world's most romantic ballet, and it's a long way from the classical version you might be thinking of. The Australian company has traded the tutu and the pointe shoes for physicality, cheeky humour and contemporary energy, and they've added a few quirky touches along the way: a sequinned flipper-wearing duck army and a burlesque black swan.

It's created by Yaron Lifschitz and the Circa ensemble, with Lifschitz also directing and staging the show. Jethro Woodward is the composer and sound designer. The production was co-commissioned by QPAC and The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi, and it acknowledges the assistance of the Australian Government through Creative Australia and the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland. Critics have called it one of the most exhilarating and thought-provoking shows of the year.

It's billed as a seasonal treat, and the run sits right in the middle of the Christmas break. The performance runs about an hour and twenty minutes with no interval, and it's suitable for ages five and over. Tickets start from £12.50.

There are plenty of times to choose from across the six days: Wednesday 23 December at 7.30pm; Thursday 24 December at 2pm and 5pm; Saturday 26 December at 2pm; Sunday 27 December at 11am and 2pm; and Monday 28 December at 2pm and 7pm. The 28 December show is audio described.
