Crush

Crush plays at the Brighton Dome on Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 September, both nights starting at 8pm with doors opening at 7.15pm. It's a British-Somali romantic comedy written by Hadsan Mohamud and directed by Alena Sahota, and it's being staged in the Studio Theatre on Church Street.

The whole thing takes place in a clinic waiting room. The two characters are Najma, who's been in treatment for years, and Zakariya, who's just starting out. Over the course of the play, their sessions gradually turn into conversations, jokes and secrets, and open up into a story about identity, connection and the messy path to healing. It's a small, contained setting that lets the two of them do the heavy lifting.

On stage, Hadsan Mohamud plays Najma and Mohamed Hashi plays Zakariya. The production was longlisted for the Tony Craze Award 2025 and is presented by SH Productions on behalf of Mohamud. It's recommended for ages 14 and over, so it's fine for teens and adults alike.

Tickets are £20, with £18 concessions and a limited number of £10 low-income concessions. If you're a Brighton Dome or Brighton Festival member, you'll save £2 on full-price tickets. Both shows start at 8pm, and the doors open at 7.15pm, so you've got plenty of time to get settled in the Studio Theatre before it kicks off.
