A community singing workshop exploring John Rutter's Requiem with Sussex Voiceworks, concluding with an informal performance.
Sussex Voiceworks are running a come-and-sing workshop at Southwick Methodist Church on Saturday 17 October, starting at 13:30. The whole afternoon is spent working through John Rutter's Requiem, which he wrote in 1985. It's a piece that blends the traditional Latin Requiem Mass with psalms and biblical texts in English, and the session is open to anyone who wants to sing, regardless of experience.
The music moves between sorrow and consolation, darkness and light, and you'll get to know some of its most recognisable moments: Pie Jesu, Sanctus, Out of the Deep, The Lord is my Shepherd and Lux Aeterna. While it deals with grief and remembrance, the lasting message is one of hope, comfort and peace. The workshop is led by the Sussex Voiceworks Musical Director and an accompanist, and there are free refreshments during the breaks to keep things social.

Once the singing is done, the afternoon wraps up with an informal performance from 18:00 to 18:30, open to family and friends, so you can show them what you've been working on. The church is at Manor Hall Road, Southwick, BN4 2 4NA, and the guide price is £5.00.
