A beginner-friendly workshop to design hand-painted Christmas cards using modern brush calligraphy and watercolour techniques.
Starling Studio is hosting a Christmas watercolour and brush lettering workshop on Thursday 3 December, from 17:30 to 19:30. It's a beginner-friendly session, so you don't need to have picked up a brush before to get stuck in. The whole evening is about making your own hand-painted Christmas cards, combining modern brush calligraphy with watercolour painting.
The session starts with the lettering. You'll spend the first part practising the fundamentals of modern brush calligraphy, working through the basic letterforms until you've got a handle on how to shape them. Once you're comfortable with that, you'll move on to the painting side of things: mixing a festive colour palette and exploring simple watercolour techniques to build a collection of seasonal card designs. There are step-by-step demonstrations throughout, and the tutor works around the room giving individual guidance, so you're not left guessing if you hit a wall.
It's a small-group, mindful setting, and you'll leave with a set of handmade cards and enough confidence to keep creating at home. All the materials are provided, so you just need to turn up. Spaces are limited and booking is essential, and tickets are non-refundable, so it's worth getting yours sorted early if you're keen.
