Friendly, fun drop-in dance workshops featuring feel-good tunes, guided routines, and playful battles.
If you’ve been spending time around Valley Gardens lately, you might have noticed the setup at Caravanserai. Starting on 2 May, they are hosting a series called CaraDANCErai!. It’s essentially a collection of drop-in dance workshops that take place 'Under the Archway' at St Peter's Church on York Place. The idea here is pretty straightforward: it’s a mix between a dance class and a casual get-together with friends. You’re not just watching a performance; the focus is on the audience becoming the show itself.

The sessions are built around big, feel-good tunes, guided routines, and what they call playful battles. You can choose to follow the leader’s steps or just improvise if you prefer. It’s designed to be accessible, so all ages and abilities are welcome to join in. The programming changes depending on the day, with different instructors taking the lead. BamBam Dance Fitness is running the sessions on 2, 16, and 30 May, while Line Dance with Bea takes over on 9 May. There is a session on 23 May as well, though the instructor for that date is currently to be confirmed.
Since it’s located right in the heart of Brighton, it’s easy to drop by if you’re already in the area. The workshops are free to join, and you have the option to either reserve a ticket in advance or just turn up on the day. It’s a low-pressure environment, which is helpful if you’re just looking for a bit of movement without the intensity of a formal class. Whether you want to learn specific routines or just move around to some music, the space is open for anyone who wants to participate. It’s a fairly open format, so you can engage as much or as little as you like, making it a flexible way to spend an afternoon in the city.
