Choral concert by Brighton Voices with the Vaughan Williams Sinfonia, featuring John Rutter's Requiem as an evening of music for remembrance.
Brighton Voices are performing at All Saints Church in Hove on Saturday 7 November, with the concert running from 19:00 to 20:45. They've billed it as a remembrance concert, and the whole evening is built around the music of John Rutter.
The centrepiece is Rutter's Requiem, a choral work that takes up the bulk of the programme. It's a piece that sits right in his wheelhouse — melodic, accessible, and written for voices and orchestra — and it's what the night is built around. The rest of the set will be other Rutter pieces, so the whole evening stays within his particular sound rather than jumping between composers.
They aren't doing it alone, either. The Vaughan Williams Sinfonia will be accompanying them throughout, providing the orchestral backing that the Requiem needs. Having a full ensemble behind the choir gives the work its proper scale, and it's a good pairing for a night that's meant to be heard in a church.
