Borrowed: A Group Painting Exhibition

Borrowed, a group painting exhibition, opens at Gallery Lock In on Saturday 22 August and runs through to Friday 28 August. It brings together five artists working around a single, shared starting point: the instability of home. The title itself points to it — the idea that the home we remember often no longer exists in the form we carry.

From there, each artist takes a different route. Some trace changing landscapes and environments, while others look at cultural dissonance, mediated memory and the emotional distance that opens up when you move between identities or places. Together, the works consider what gets left behind in the pursuit of opportunity, the desire to remember, and the ways nostalgia can reshape how we understand home. It's five interconnected perspectives on memory, belonging and change, rather than a single, unified statement.

Because it's a group show, you'll see how different painters handle the same theme. One might focus on the physical shift of a place, another on the internal gap between where you are and where you came from. Seeing them side by side lets you compare how they each approach that sense of something slipping away, and how they each try to hold onto it.

The exhibition is free to visit, and Gallery Lock In is on Little Western Street, BN1 2PU. It's open from 13:00 to 18:00 every day from Saturday 22 August to Friday 28 August, so you've got a full week to drop in when it suits.
