BN1 Band Camp kicks off at BN1 Arts Centre on Monday 10 August, a full week of music-making for 12-18-year-olds to write, produce and perform their own music. It's a hands-on creative week that takes a song from the first idea right through to the final gig, with participants working alongside other young people in a fun, relaxed and high-energy environment.
It's aimed at anyone in that age group who sings, plays an instrument, writes songs, produces beats or simply loves music. You don't need to have it all figured out before you show up; the whole point is to get stuck in and build something from scratch. Because it's a week rather than a one-off session, there's room to actually work through the process—writing the tunes, getting them produced and then playing them live—rather than just skimming the surface. And since you're working with other people your own age, it's as much about the people you meet as the music you make.
The camp itself came about by popular demand, with the BN1 Arts Centre gathering its music programme into this single, concentrated week. It's run by the centre, which is a community interest company based in the heart of the city, and it's designed to be accessible to anyone with a passion for music, regardless of where they're starting from. If you've got a guitar in the corner of your room, a laptop you use for beats, or just a voice and a love for singing, this is where you bring it.

If you've got a teenager in the house who's always humming a tune or tinkering with a keyboard, this is a great way to get them doing something creative with other people their own age over the summer.
