The narrative follows Raymond, an English visitor who arrives in Berlin as an idealist, only to find himself drawn into the city's nightlife. He meets Ernst, a magnetic performer whose charm masks a life defined by fear and violence. As their relationship develops, the play tracks the risks they take to be together in a society where danger is never far away. The story is built around the tension of their forbidden connection, complicated further by the looming threat of Ernst’s abusive lover. Caught between their growing passion and the harsh reality of their situation, the characters are forced to decide exactly how much they are willing to sacrifice for their freedom and for each other. The production is described as being tense, funny, and seductive in equal measure. Given the themes explored, the play carries an 18+ age rating, and there are specific content warnings to be aware of regarding drug use, violence, and domestic abuse.
