Backstage Tour

Theatre Royal's backstage tours are back, running from Saturday 22 August 2026 through to 27 March 2027. It's a long run, so you've got plenty of time to fit it in over the autumn and winter rather than rushing to catch it in a single weekend.

The tour takes you behind the scenes of the theatre on New Road, which has a long history of hosting major acts. You'll follow in the footsteps of the legends who've played the city's great rooms, and the heritage of the scene is laid out in a gallery of past performers. The names on the wall run the full breadth of music and entertainment: Elton John, Roxy Music, Oscar Peterson, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Twiggy and Duran Duran. It's a good way to see just how many different kinds of acts have passed through the building over the years.

Beyond the music, there's a bit of local geography to pick up. You'll catch a glimpse of the entrance to the tunnel that leads to the Royal Pavilion, and the tour covers some of the more surprising roles the venue has played over its life. If you've spent years walking past the front of the building, it's a chance to see what's actually going on behind the walls.

Tickets are £15, and since the tours run for seven months, you can pick a date that suits you. Times vary across the programme, so it's worth checking the full schedule before you book. The theatre is at New Road, Brighton, BN1 1SD.
