Berlin-based Irish gothic-folk singer-songwriter A.S. Fanning performs live in Brighton, presenting his fourth album 'Take Me Back to Nowhere' with support from Baby Gem.
On Thursday, 19th March, A.S. Fanning is playing at The Folklore Rooms as part of his latest tour. He’s an Irish singer-songwriter who has been based in Berlin for a while now, and his music usually sits somewhere between gothic-folk and a more introspective kind of indie-rock. This Brighton show comes just after the release of his fourth album, Take Me Back to Nowhere, which came out in February 2026. If you haven't heard his stuff, he’s known for a very deep baritone voice and lyrics that take a lot of cues from Irish literary traditions and authors like Ursula K. Le Guin. It’s a sound that mixes acoustic intimacy with some interesting electronic textures, often drawing comparisons to people like Leonard Cohen or Scott Walker.

The evening also features Baby Gem as the guest. Her style is more in the indie-alt-folk-rock vein, with some retro touches that should pair well with the main set’s more melancholic feel. Since the venue at 12 North Street (BN1 3GJ) is a seated space, it seems like it’ll be a good fit for the kind of atmospheric and slightly psychedelic music Fanning is known for. It’s a small enough room that the focus usually stays on the songwriting and the textures of the performance, which suits the introspective nature of his new material.
In terms of the schedule, doors are at 19:30 and the music starts at 20:00. It’s an 18+ event, which is worth keeping in mind if you’re planning to head down. Tickets are generally around £15.40, though if you book in advance they are £14.00 plus fees, or you can pick them up for £16.00 at the door on the night. This date is part of a larger run he’s doing through Germany and the Netherlands before hitting a few spots in the UK, so it’s a chance to see the new album tracks live shortly after their release.
