Brighton indie-pop band Amelia & The Housewives play a free show to celebrate the release of their debut album.
Amelia & The Housewives are playing Daltons on Saturday 3 October, a free matinee to mark their debut album. It's a Brighton indie-pop band fronted by Amelia, with Jonny at the other end, and they've built their name on a handful of singles and a live show that tends to turn into a party — the crowd often spills onto the stage, and Amelia ends up singing and dancing in the middle of the audience, with a classic cover or two thrown in.
Their debut single, 'Maybe', came out on Damaged Goods and is a 4/4 stomper that sounds like a 60s beat classic polished up for the 21st century; it's still a live favourite. The band writes most of its songs via the group's WhatsApp chat, often on bus and train journeys. 'Narcissist' was written on a bus from Brighton to Eastbourne on the hottest day of the year, while Jonny was in San Francisco and it was raining. Amelia describes them as 'the Woody Guthrie of indie-pop'.
Their self-titled debut album, a ten-song collection out on INH Records, arrived on Friday 2 October — the day before this show. John Kennedy played five of the songs on Radio X and called them 'Brighton's best kept secret'.
