A hands-on workshop helping mothers return to work with AI skills, featuring live demonstrations and a baby-friendly environment.
AI on Maternity Leave is at Plus X Innovation on Lewes Road on Tuesday 11 August, from 11am to 12.45pm. It's a workshop for mothers returning to work after maternity leave, designed to help them get up to speed with AI skills and feel more confident about using them in the office. The session is led by Amber Foster of Human Superpowers and Zoe from We Are Auntie CiC, and it's built around hands-on learning rather than just listening to a presentation.
What you'll get is a mix of live demonstrations and open discussions, with women who actually use AI in their day jobs leading the way. There's a focus on honest conversation about what AI can and can't do, so you're not just hearing the hype. And it's a baby-friendly space—babies are always welcome, so you don't have to worry about finding childcare just to spend a morning on this. It's as much about peer support as it is about the tech, with a welcoming atmosphere for anyone who's been away from the workplace for a bit.
The whole thing comes from Katie Rose, a Brighton-based brand and marketing leader with 15 years of experience. She started it as a response to what she calls the 'motherhood penalty': the idea that women's jobs are more vulnerable to AI-driven automation, yet women tend to adopt the technology more slowly, especially after periods of leave, and are too often seen as cutting corners when they do. Rose says she created the workshop so women can return to their roles leading the AI conversation rather than spending their first few weeks catching up.

It's not a shot in the dark, either. This follows a sold-out July pilot with 15 attendees, whose average confidence in using AI at work rose from 1.9 to 3.5 out of five, with a Net Promoter Score of +82. Mum-and-baby tickets are £12, and the session runs from 11am to 12.45pm at Plus X Innovation on Lewes Road.
