Weekly interactive drama session for people over fifty, open to everyone regardless of experience, to rediscover play and creativity.
Age is a Stage is back running its weekly interactive drama sessions, with the next one at Theatre Royal this Friday 23 October. It's open to everyone over fifty, and you don't need any acting experience to join in. The whole point is to get theatre back into the lives of older people, and it's been doing exactly that for eight years now.
What happens in a session is less about putting on a polished play and more about the process of making it. They describe it as a creative programme to break the rules and reignite your creative spark. The workshops encourage you to be playful, to look at the world with a fresh eye, and to rediscover the joy of play and creativity that comes when like-minded people get together and let go. It's about the doing rather than the result, so it's as much about the company as it is about the drama.
If you're curious about what that actually looks like in practice, they've got a YouTube channel with examples of their work, so you can see the kind of things they get up to before you commit. The organisation has been supported by local partners over the years, and the sessions have been running since the 8th of September.

There are two different slots to choose from depending on where you are. The Brighton session is on Fridays from 11am to 12.30pm at Theatre Royal, and it's £12. If you're closer to Shoreham, there's a Tuesday session from 10.30am to 12 noon at Ropetackle Arts Centre, which is £11, or £10 if you're unwaged.
