Interactive drama workshops open to everyone aged 50 or over, encouraging creativity and playfulness.
Age is a Stage is running interactive drama workshops for anyone aged 50 or over, with sessions open to all regardless of experience. They've been working with older people in Brighton for eight years, and the whole thing is built around the idea of breaking the rules, being playful and looking at the world with a fresh eye. They describe themselves as a place to light or reignite the creative spark, and regular attendees say it feels like coming home.
There are two different runs to choose from. In Brighton, they're at the Theatre Royal on Fridays from 11:00 to 12:30, with new dates running through the autumn of 2026. If you're further west, they're at the Ropetackle Arts Centre in Shoreham on Tuesdays from 10:30 to 12:00; those sessions resumed on 8 September 2026 and will keep going through 2027, so there's plenty of room to settle in.
Because the workshops are interactive, you're not just watching — you're part of it. The focus is on playing around and getting stuck in rather than getting things right, so you don't need any acting background to join. If you want to see what they're about before you sign up, they have a YouTube channel with examples of their work.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Brighton and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
